Is a 'regulatory compliance fee' from 'Funds Recovery Group' just another scam after I lost my crypto?
Hey everyone,
I'm honestly at my wit's end. About six months ago, I fell for a crypto investment scam, lost nearly 10k EUR. It was awful, I was so embarrassed. I reported it to the police here in Belfast, but haven't heard much back.
Then, out of the blue, I got an email and then a call from a company called Funds Recovery Group. They said they'd seen my report (which freaked me out a bit, how did they know?) and claimed they could get my money back. They sounded really professional, had all these fancy legal terms. They even sent me a 'case brief'.
Now, after a few weeks of back and forth, they're asking for a 'regulatory compliance fee' of 1,500 EUR before they can 'initiate the fund transfer'. They say it's to satisfy international financial regulations. My gut is screaming scam, especially after what happened before, but part of me is desperate to believe them. Is this a common thing? Or am I about to be scammed again?
