My savings are gone after a fake 'staking pool' on a new exchange, what now?
Feeling totally gutted right now. I was trying to get into crypto a bit more, saw this 'new' exchange advertised on a financial forum I used to trust. It looked legit, smooth UI, promised great APYs on staking, way better than what Coinbase or Kraken offered. I moved a decent chunk of my savings, like low five figures, over to them in USDT and ETH to join their 'defi staking pool'. They even had a chat function with 'support' that seemed helpful at first. Then, when I tried to withdraw just a small amount to test it out, nothing. Error messages. The 'support' person kept saying there were 'network issues' or 'KYC verification pending' and asked for more funds to 'unlock' my account. I didn't send more, thankfully. Now their website is completely down, chat offline, everything. It feels like they just vanished. I'm in Vancouver, and this was literally all my emergency savings. Is there anything, anything at all, that can be done? Or is it just gone for good?
Lost my crypto after a 'security audit' email, is it recoverable?
Hey everyone, Feeling pretty gutted right now. I got an email last week that looked super legit, like it was from Trust Wallet, saying they were doing a mandatory security audit and I needed to verify my wallet. It had all the logos, looked professional, even the sender email seemed okay at first glance. I clicked the link, connected my wallet (stupid, I know, but it was late and I wasn't thinking straight), and followed the steps to "re-authenticate." Next morning, I check my Trust Wallet and almost all my ETH and some USDC are gone. Just...poof. The transaction history shows a bunch of transfers I didn't authorize. I reported it to Trust Wallet support, but they basically said once it's off-chain, it's out of their hands. Is there *any* hope here? Has anyone dealt with something like this and actually got their funds back? I'm in shock.
Wallet drained after signing up for a 'new exchange bonus', can anything be done?
Hey everyone, I feel so stupid right now. I saw this ad on Reddit for a new crypto exchange launching, promising some insane deposit bonuses and staking APYs if you signed up within the first 24 hours. They even had a fancy countdown timer and everything. Ngl, it looked pretty legit, lots of slick graphics. I thought, wow, this is a real opportunity. So, I signed up, connected my MetaMask to transfer some ETH for the bonus – just a little, like 0.8 ETH, to dip my toes in. The site prompted me to approve a smart contract interaction directly, which I thought was odd for a deposit, but I figured hey, new tech, maybe it's some kind of direct integration thing for instant bonuses. And then... poof. My entire MetaMask wallet was drained. Not just the 0.8 ETH, but everything else in there too – some MATIC, a bit of BNB. Total low five figures. My heart just sank. I've tried reaching out to their 'support' but no reply. The website is still up. I feel like such an idiot. Is there anything at all I can do? Like, was it a malicious smart contract? Can it be traced? I'm in Seattle, reported it to the local police but they just looked at me blank.
