My 'mentor' from a professional network scammed me with a fake crypto platform, now what?
ugh, I'm so embarrassed. I met this guy through a professional networking group online – not LinkedIn, but similar, focused on career development. He seemed super legit, really knew his stuff about marketing, and we talked for weeks. He slowly started bringing up crypto investments, saying he had an 'inside track' on this platform called CoinEgg that was generating amazing returns. He even showed me screenshots, looked really convincing. He was so patient, walked me through setting up an account, even helped me with the first few small deposits. I put in about $12,000 of my savings, saw the 'returns' going up daily on the platform – even did one small withdrawal to prove it worked, which it did! But when I tried to pull out a larger amount, suddenly there were 'taxes' and 'fees' and then my account was locked. He's ghosted me. I just feel so stupid. Is there anything I can even do now? I'm in Phoenix, Arizona, so I guess I'd report to the FBI? But will it even matter for CoinEgg?
