Crypto 'wallet drainer' after a fake 'hardware wallet update' – is my Binance Smart Chain BNB gone for good?
I'm gutted, you guys. I usually am so careful. I got an email that looked super legit, like from Ledger, saying I needed to update my hardware wallet firmware 'urgently' because of a new vulnerability. I clicked the link, it took me to a site that looked exactly like Ledger Live, and I connected my wallet, entered my seed phrase (yeah, I know, my stomach dropped the second I typed it), and then nothing. The update 'failed'.
Checked my Trust Wallet a few hours later and all my BNB on Binance Smart Chain is gone. Every single token, just... poof. It was all my savings, about 10k EUR worth. I feel so stupid. I've heard about these 'wallet drainers' but never thought it'd happen to me. Etherscan just shows a transaction sending it to some other unknown address. Is there ANYthing at all I can do? Or is this just a really expensive, humiliating lesson?
