Lost my inheritance to a 'future partner' from a dating app, now my money is gone from a fake investment platform – can I recover from France?
i'm just... i'm devastated. i met this wonderful man on a dating app, 'Laurent', he was so attentive and charming. we talked for months, he knew everything about me, my family, my dreams. then he started talking about this amazing crypto investment opportunity, super exclusive, only for people he really trusted. he said it would double my inheritance within months, make our future together so much easier. i transferred about 15,000 euros into this platform, 'CryptoWealth Pro' it was called. he walked me through every step. for a while, i saw numbers going up, i even 'withdrew' a small amount, like 100 euros, just to make sure it was real. it worked! so i put more in. now, both 'Laurent' and the platform are gone. no replies, nothing. i feel so stupid, so gullible. my inheritance was meant for a down payment on a house. i'm in Nantes, France. where do i even begin to report this? is there any hope of getting even a tiny bit back?
Lost my inheritance to a 'future partner' from a dating app, now my money is gone from a fake investment platform – can I recover from Netherlands?
I really don't know where to start. About six months ago, I met someone really lovely on a dating app. We talked for ages, WhatsApp, video calls, everything. It felt so real. She knew I'd recently inherited some money from my oma in Germany, and she started talking about these secure, high-return investment opportunities. Said her uncle was a big shot in finance, blah blah. Eventually, she convinced me to put a significant chunk of it into a platform she called 'CapitalGrowth Pro'. It looked legit, smooth interface, real-time prices. I saw my balance growing, even managed a small withdrawal once, which totally hooked me. Then she said there was a 'VIP event' coming up, a huge bonus if I added more. I put in almost everything. And then poof, she's gone, the site's down, and my money, my oma's money, is just gone. Like, everything. I'm in Groningen, Netherlands. I've reported it to the local police, but they just seemed overwhelmed. Is there anything specific I can do from here? How do I even start recovering this? I feel so stupid and broken.
Lost my inheritance to a 'friend' from a language exchange app, fake crypto platform. What now?
Honestly, I still can't believe I fell for it. Met this really nice woman on a language exchange app, she said she was from Hong Kong, doing business in finance. We talked for months, loads of video calls, really seemed genuine. She started talking about crypto, how she was making good money through a 'special AI platform' her uncle developed. Said it was low risk, high return. I was reluctant at first, but she was so persistent, so understanding... she just wore me down. I transferred a substantial part of my inheritance, about low five figures, into this 'platform' she linked me to. The returns seemed amazing, on the screen anyway. Then, when I tried to withdraw, nothing. Zero response from her, the platform dissolved. My gut dropped. Felt like such an idiot. I'm in London. What are my options? Is there truly any way to get some of it back? I reported it to the local police but they just gave me a crime reference number and said it's probably unrecoverable.
