Lost my crypto savings to a fake platform after trusting someone from an online forum. What now from Canada?
I'm feeling so stupid right now, but I need some advice. I met someone really nice in a gardening forum online a few months ago. We started off just talking about plants, then it moved to DMs, and eventually we were chatting daily about everything. They seemed so supportive and understanding, especially since I'd been going through a rough patch financially.
Eventually, they started talking about crypto investing, saying they knew a really good platform that was secure and had amazing returns. They even sent screenshots. I was skeptical at first, but they were so persistent and seemed to genuinely want to help me improve my situation. After a lot of convincing, i finally put in about $7k of my savings into this platform. They walked me through setting up an account and everything. I even saw my balance growing! But when I tried to withdraw last week, the 'customer service' said I needed to pay a huge tax fee first. I paid it, stupidly, then they asked for another 'insurance' fee. That's when I knew. They've ghosted me now. I'm in Ottawa, Canada. Is there anything I can even do? I feel sick to my stomach.
