Lost my mom's retirement to a fake crypto platform after meeting someone on LinkedIn — any hope?
I'm so ashamed right now I can barely type this. I met this guy on LinkedIn, seemed super professional, talked about investment opportunities. He was really charming, always asking about my family, getting to know me. After a few weeks, he convinced me to "diversify" into crypto. He introduced me to this platform that looked legit, said it was partnered with some big names. I invested some of my own money first, saw some small returns. Then, like an idiot, I talked my mom into putting a significant chunk of her retirement savings into it, about CAD $150k. Now the platform is gone, his LinkedIn is deleted, and all the money is just... gone. I feel sick. We reached out to our bank, TD, but they said they couldn't do anything because I authorized the transfers. I don't even know where to start. Is there any way to report this effectively and maybe get some of it back? I told my mom it was my fault, and I just can't face her. She trusted me.
