My 'future business partner' from a tech conference scammed me with a fake trading app – what now?
I met this guy at a virtual tech conference a few months back, thought he was legit. He was super charming, really knew his stuff about AI and fintech. We even talked about potential collaborations, building something big here in Dubai. After a while, he started talking about this exclusive investment platform, how it was backed by some big names and using cutting-edge AI for crypto trading. He showed me amazing returns on his account, really convinced me it was a golden opportunity.
I started with a small amount, saw the 'profits' grow, and then things escalated. I ended up putting in a significant portion of my savings, wiring money to what I thought was a secure corporate bank account for the platform. Now all the communication has stopped, the app is gone, and the phone numbers don't work. I feel like such an idiot, honestly. I've reported it to the local police here in Dubai, but they said it's hard with international wire transfers and crypto. What else can I do? Is there even a slight chance of getting anything back?
