Lost my inheritance to a 'financial advisor' from a professional networking app, any recovery hope from US?
Feeling so stupid, honestly. I met this guy on a professional networking site, thought he was legit, you know? He seemed really successful, sharp, talked about blockchain and fintech. We chatted for weeks, then months, started feeling really close. He suggested I invest some of my inheritance, said he had these 'insider strategies' on a platform he called `BitForex impersonators`. Sounded legit at the time, especially with the 'BitForex' part, I didn't realize it was a copycat site until much later. Started with a small amount, saw good returns in my 'account' on their site. Put in more, then all of it. Now he's ghosted me, the site's down, and my entire inheritance, close to six figures, is gone. I'm in Philly, tried calling my bank, they just said it was an international transfer and they couldn't do much. I've heard about the FBI IC3 but haven't filed yet, kinda scared and embarrassed. Is there actually any point? What exactly should I tell them? Any experience with recovery, or am I just out of luck?
Lost my crypto to an 'online connection' from a travel community forum, what now in the US?
Feeling pretty raw right now, tbh. Met someone on a travel community forum last month, you know, just talking about trips and stuff. We moved to WeChat, things got kinda flirty, and then they started talking about this amazing crypto investment opportunity, super exclusive. Said they'd made a killing and wanted to share. They sent me to this platform, not ZG.com or CoinEgg, but something similar, looked legit enough initially. Put in about $8k over a couple of weeks. Everything looked great on their 'app,' profits soaring. Then, when I tried to withdraw, nothing. My 'connection' vanished too. I'm in Los Angeles. I've heard about the FBI IC3 but how effective is it really? And what info do they even need? This is just... devastating.
