My 'broker' is asking for a 'security deposit' to withdraw my 'trading profits'. Is this a scam?
Honestly, I'm feeling sick to my stomach. I got into forex trading a few months ago through an ad on social media. Everything seemed fine; my account with this platform, called 'AlphaTrade Prime', showed my profits growing from an initial deposit of 500 EUR to over 8,000 EUR. I was so excited, thinking I'd finally made some smart money.
Now, I tried to withdraw 2,000 EUR, just to test the waters. The withdrawal button on the platform just led to a page saying 'processing'. After a few days, I got an email saying I needed to pay a 'security deposit' of 1,000 EUR before my withdrawal could be processed, apparently to 'secure my identity and funds during transfer'. They said it's standard procedure for first-time large withdrawals. It sounds fishy, right? I've never heard of this. My partner thinks I've been had, and I'm starting to agree. What should I do? Is this normal at all?
