Crypto sent to fake BitForex site after clicking a scam ad, is there any way to recover it?
Feeling totally gutted right now. I was trying to deposit some USDT to BitForex, which I've used before, but I clicked on a Google ad that looked legit. The site looked EXACTLY like BitForex, even had the little lock icon in the browser, but it was just slightly off in the URL. Didn't notice until after I'd sent a good chunk of USDT – not huge money for some, but it was like 8,000 USDT which is a lot for me and my family here in Dubai. The transaction went through on the blockchain, I can see it on Etherscan, but it never showed up in my actual BitForex account. Logged into the real BitForex and nothing. The wallet address I sent it to is now empty. I've heard about some blockchain tracing stuff but it sounds super complicated. Is there anything I can even DO at this point? I reported it to the local police but they just looked blank. Just need some real advice, please.
