My 'new friend' from Discord helped me invest, now I can't withdraw from 'CryptoWorldPro'. Is it a scam?
Hey everyone, I'm really panicking here. I met someone on Discord a few months ago, seemed really nice, we talked a lot about gaming and eventually crypto. They convinced me to try this platform called "CryptoWorldPro" saying it had great returns and was super secure. I started with a small amount, like 500 euros, and it actually looked like it was growing. My dashboard showed profits, so I put in more, about 12,000 euros in total. It was almost everything I had saved up. Now, I'm trying to withdraw some of the supposed profits, and it's asking for a "tax payment" of like 15% before I can even touch my funds. My "friend" is saying it's standard, but it feels so off. I tried looking up CryptoWorldPro and can't find anything legit, no proper reviews, no regulatory info. My heart just sank. Is this a common scam? Is there anything at all I can do? I'm so scared I've lost everything. I haven't paid the 'tax' yet.
Crypto funds vanished from my MetaMask after approving a 'wallet verification' dApp – any hope?
Ok, so I'm a bit mortified but I need to ask. I got a message on Discord from someone I thought was from a reputable project's support team. They said there was an issue with my wallet address eligibility for an airdrop and I needed to verify my wallet through a special dApp link they sent. I clicked it, connected my MetaMask, and approved what I thought was just a verification signature. It was late, I was tired, didn't read super carefully. Next morning, all my ETH and a chunk of my USDC are gone. My transaction history on Etherscan shows a bunch of 'approve' transactions and then transfers out. I feel like such an idiot. Is there _any_ way to get this crypto back? I've already reported it to MetaMask but they said they can't reverse transactions. What else can I even do? This was a significant amount for me.
Lost my life savings to a 'friend' from a gaming community, fake crypto app. What can I do in SA?
I'm feeling so numb right now. I met this person through a gaming group on Discord, and we were chatting daily for months. They seemed really cool, super supportive, and we even talked about meeting up eventually. Then they introduced me to this 'exclusive' crypto investment platform, showing me screenshots of amazing returns. I started small, and it actually did show profits, so I invested more and more, thinking I was securing my future. I even took out a small loan. They pushed me to put in my entire life savings, which I did, into what I now realize was a fake app. Now, the 'friend' is gone, the platform is gone, and I can't access anything. My bank thinks it was a legitimate transfer initially. I feel so stupid. I'm in Johannesburg. Is there anything I can even do from South Africa? Any point reporting this, or am I just completely out of luck? Any advice on who to contact here?
