Crypto sent to a wrong address on an unknown ERC-20 network, is it gone forever?

Feeling absolutely sick right now. I was trying to send some USDT from my MetaMask to a friend, but I accidentally selected the wrong network. Instead of Polygon, I somehow ended up on some random 'Ethereum Proof-of-Work' network or something similar. Honestly, I don't even know what that is. The transaction went through, confirmed on Etherscan, but it's not showing up in my friend's wallet, nor can I see it on Polygon. It's just... floating out there on this weird network. I've tried looking up this 'EthereumPoW' network, and it seems to be a real thing, but totally separate. Is there *any* way to recover these funds? I'm so worried, it was a good chunk of crypto that I really can't afford to lose. I've sent a support ticket to MetaMask but haven't heard back yet. My friend says it's probably gone, but I can't accept that.
