Met someone on a travel vloggers' forum, lost all my savings to fake forex. Will reporting help?

I'm gutted. Seriously. I met this amazing guy on a forum for independent travel vloggers maybe six months ago. We connected over our mutual love for South East Asia, then moved to WhatsApp. He seemed so genuine, always asking about my day, sharing bits of his life. Eventually, he started talking about how he was making loads of money trading forex and wanted to 'help' me secure my future after hearing i was thinking about taking a few years off to travel more. Foolishly, I trusted him. I put in about €4,000 to start, then another €8,000, into this platform he recommended. It had a fancy name, some really convincing charts. Always showed profits, but when I tried to withdraw, guess what? Fees, taxes, 'technical issues'. Now he's ghosted me and the website is gone. Based in Limerick, Ireland. What are my chances if I report this to the Gardai or Action Fraud?
