A company called 'Global Asset Recovery Agency' wants a 'security deposit' fee. Scam or legit?
Hi everyone, I'm feeling really stupid right now. About six months ago, I lost quite a bit of money, like, a low five figures, in a forex scam. It was one of those 'invest and get rich quick' things, totally my fault for believing it. I reported it to the local police here in Cape Town, but honestly, didn't expect much. Now, out of the blue, I get an email from a company calling themselves 'Global Asset Recovery Agency'. They claim they've traced some of the funds and can get them back for me. My heart literally jumped. They've been really professional, sending me documents and everything. But now they're asking for a 'security deposit' before they can release the funds, saying it's a standard procedure to cover potential legal fees if the other side disputes. It's about R20,000 (roughly $1,000 USD). My gut is screaming no, but a small part of me desperately wants this to be real. Is this a common thing for legitimate recovery? Or am I about to get scammed again?
A company called 'Global Asset Recovery Agency' wants a 'cryptocurrency unblocking fee'. Scam?
Hey everyone, feeling pretty low right now. I lost a significant amount of money to a crypto investment scam back in January – about 15k CAD. I reported it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre, but honestly didn't expect much. Then last week, I got an email out of the blue from something called 'Global Asset Recovery Agency.' They said they'd traced my funds to some frozen wallet and could help me get them back. They've been really professional on the phone, sending me official-looking documents and everything. Now they're asking for a 'cryptocurrency unblocking fee' of about 1500 CAD before they can initiate the transfer. They say it's to cover blockchain network fees and some kind of compliance charge. My gut is screaming scam, but a part of me really wants this to be real. Has anyone heard of these guys or something similar? Is this just another layer of the scam?
