My 'future husband' from Facebook got me into a fake gold trading platform. Any hope from UAE?
I met someone really charming on Facebook a few months ago. He was so sweet, we talked for hours every day, and he seemed like everything I ever wanted. He eventually convinced me to invest in what he called a 'private gold trading platform' — said it was an exclusive opportunity and his uncle was a big shot in the industry in Switzerland. At first, it looked amazing, I saw profits accumulating. I even withdrew a small amount successfully last month, which made me trust it completely. Then he told me about a special big-ticket investment, and I put in almost everything I had, probably around $15,000 USD equivalent. Now the platform is down, his Facebook account is gone, and I can't reach him. I feel so foolish and heartbroken. I'm based in Al Ain. Is there anything I can do from here? Should I go to the police? Or is it just a lost cause?
