My 'wealth manager' promised huge returns, now my crypto's gone from a fake platform. Is there any hope?
Feeling so stupid right now. Met this guy through a professional networking event here in Singapore, he presented himself as a 'wealth manager' specializing in crypto. He was super charming, very knowledgeable, and even had fancy brochures. He convinced me to move my BTC and ETH from my Kraken account into this 'exclusive investment platform' he managed, promised like 15-20% returns a month, which sounded insane but he showed me 'proof' and 'live trades' on his tablet. Kept saying it was a private fund, not open to public. I deposited about 12k USD worth of crypto over a few weeks. Saw the numbers grow on their dashboard, even withdrew a small amount once (like $200) to test it. Now, suddenly, his number's disconnected, the platform website is gone, and the email bounces back. My stomach just dropped. I reported it to the local police, but they just kinda shrugged. Is there anything at all I can do? Or is this just a really expensive lesson?
