Refund Advocates reached out about my crypto losses – they want a 'due diligence' payment. Another scam?
Honestly, I'm just so tired. Back in January, I lost a significant amount of crypto, about 7,000 GBP, to one of those dodgy investment platforms. I reported it to Action Fraud and the FCA, but haven't really heard much back, just the standard 'we're looking into it' emails.
Then, a few days ago, I got an email out of the blue from a company calling themselves 'Refund Advocates'. They said they'd found my case details somehow (red flag, I know, but I'm desperate) and that they could recover my funds. They sent some official-looking documents and even had a surprisingly slick website. Seems legit on the surface. But now, they're asking for a 'due diligence and preliminary investigation' fee of 750 GBP before they can proceed.
My gut is screaming scam again, especially after what happened before. But part of me just hopes, you know? Has anyone dealt with Refund Advocates or something similar? Is this 'due diligence fee' a real thing, or am I about to be scammed a second time? I'm in Cardiff, UK, if that matters.
