Lost my crypto after a fake 'tax audit' email – is there any way to recover it?
Feeling absolutely sick right now. I got this really convincing-looking email last week, said it was from the 'Revenue Commissioners' (our tax office here in Ireland), saying my crypto gains needed an urgent audit and if I didn't verify a few things, my accounts would be frozen. It had links and everything, looked legit, not like the usual spam. I clicked, it asked for my wallet details, and like an absolute idiot, I entered my seed phrase. Less than an hour later, my entire Trust Wallet balance – a good chunk of my savings – was gone. All my ETH and some SOL, just… poof. I've already reported it to An Garda Síochána (the police) and my bank, but they just said it's probably gone. Is there *any* remote chance of getting it back? Or did I just kiss goodbye to everything?
My MetaMask was drained after a supposed 'security update' prompt, is there any way to get my ETH back?
Hey everyone, feeling pretty low right now. Last night, I was just checking my crypto on my laptop, chilling in my apartment here in Paris, when I got this pop-up on my browser saying my MetaMask needed an urgent security update. It looked super legit, like the official MetaMask site, green padlock and everything. I clicked it, followed the instructions to 're-sync' my wallet – basically putting in my seed phrase. Didn't think twice, seemed like a normal procedure for an update, right? Then this morning, I logged back in and all my ETH is GONE. Like, zero. I had about 2.5 ETH in there, which is a significant chunk for me. I've checked Etherscan and I can see the transactions, it was all sent to some other address within minutes after I 'updated'. I feel so stupid. Is there seriously no way to get this back? Has anyone ever recovered funds after falling for something like this? I've reported it to MetaMask support but haven't heard anything useful back yet.
Lost my crypto after a fake 'tech support' incident – can Chainalysis really trace it?
Hey everyone, I'm feeling sick to my stomach about this. Last week, I got a popup on my laptop saying my Trezor was compromised and I needed to "verify" my seed phrase ASAP. It looked like an official Trezor page, honestly. Panicked, I entered it. Within minutes, my entire ETH and some BTC, low five figures worth, was gone. Just disappeared from my Trust Wallet linked to the Trezor. I reported it to the local gardaí, but they just looked at me blankly. Someone mentioned Chainalysis can trace crypto. Is that true? Like, can they actually get it back? Or am I just dreaming? I'm honestly desperate here, that was my future house deposit. Any advice on what to do next? My head's a mess.
