Lost a load of money to 'girlfriend' from WeChat, fake platform involved - what now from UAE?
I'm gutted. Absolutely gutted. I met this woman on WeChat, she seemed really nice, we talked for months, loads of video calls, she even sent me gifts. She said she was working in finance and knew a 'secret' way to make good returns. Convinced me to put money into this platform that was supposed to be for forex trading, but she called it 'institutional crypto'. It looked legit at first, the numbers were going up, I even managed to withdraw a small amount once. That's what convinced me to put in more, nearly all my savings tbh, almost 15k USD. Suddenly, the withdrawals stopped. Then her messages stopped. I can't access the platform anymore, it just gives an error. i feel like such an idiot. Is there anything at all I can do from Ajman here in the UAE? Any agency or something that deals with this?
My partner fell for a fake crypto trading platform introduced by a 'friend' from WeChat. What now?
I'm heartbroken and honestly, pretty angry. My partner, bless his trusting heart, got sucked into one of those pig butchering scams. He met someone on WeChat, they chatted for months, really built up a fake relationship. Then they introduced him to this crypto platform, said it was super profitable, linked to some big investment firm. He put in his life savings, then some inheritance from his mum, about AUD 150k in total. When he tried to withdraw, they started demanding 'taxes' and 'fees'. That's when he finally realized. We're in Hobart, Australia. He's devastated. I'm trying to be supportive but also need to know what steps we can actually take. I've heard about AFP, but is there any actual chance of recovery here? Or at least proper reporting?
