A company called 'Recovery Guardian' wants an 'anti-terrorism financing check' fee. Legit?
Okay, so I was stupid and fell for a forex scam a few months ago, lost like 8k. It was awful, I felt so dumb. I reported it to the FBI IC3 and my bank, but honestly, didn't expect much. Then last week, I get this email from a company called 'Recovery Guardian'. They said they found my case, had tracked down some of my funds to an offshore account, and could help. They even had some details about my original scam that were really specific, which made me think maybe they *were* legit.
Now, they're asking for a 'mandatory anti-terrorism financing check' fee, about $700, to release my funds. They say it's required by international banking regulations before any large sum can be moved. My gut is screaming scam again, but part of me, the part that wants my money back, is like 'what if it's real?' Can anyone tell me if this 'anti-terrorism financing check' fee is a thing, or if I'm just getting scammed again? I'm in Portland, feeling super stressed about this.
