Lost a load of crypto to a fake BitForex site after clicking a scam Twitter ad, is there any way to recover it?
Feeling absolutely gutted right now. I saw an ad on Twitter yesterday for BitForex, it looked legit, like some special promotion, you know? I clicked it, logged in with my details (which I now realize were probably stolen from somewhere else, ugh), and then they prompted me to deposit some crypto to 'unlock' the offer. I deposited about 0.5 ETH and some USDT from my Binance account. Everything seemed normal for a few hours, I even saw the balance in the fake BitForex account. Then, when I tried to withdraw, it just said 'transaction failed' repeatedly. After a bit, the whole site went blank. My heart just sank. I checked the URL again and it was like `Bitf0rex.com` or something similar, not the real one. I reported it to Binance, but they just said they can't reverse crypto transactions once sent. Is there *anything* I can do? I'm in Lyon, France, and feeling pretty desperate.
My 'future partner' from a dating app got me with fake crypto, what can I do from Canada?
I met this woman, 'Sarah,' on a major dating app a few months ago. Things moved really fast, emotionally. She was so charming, said all the right things. After a few weeks, she started talking about this amazing crypto opportunity she had, a 'wealth manager' friend, and some platform called BitForex (tho looking back, the URL was slightly off, like BitForexx or something, ugh). She sent me screenshots of her 'profits' and pressured me gently to put some money in, just a little at first. I wanted to impress her, you know? Anyway, long story short, I sent three transfers of about 3k each, thinking it was going to skyrocket. Then, when I tried to withdraw, suddenly there were 'tax' fees, then 'liquidity' fees, and now she's ghosted me and the site is gone. I feel like such an idiot. I'm in Winnipeg. What recourse do I even have in Canada for this? I've never dealt with anything like this.
Lost my life savings to a 'financial advisor' I met on Instagram claiming to work for BitForex. Any hope?
I'm gutted, absolutely gutted. I met this person on Instagram a few months back, they were really charming, seemed so supportive. Said they were an investment advisor with BitForex, showed me all these fancy profits. I started with a small amount, saw returns, and then they encouraged me to put in more, saying it was a guaranteed opportunity with incredible growth. My whole retirement, everything I'd saved, went into this platform they linked me to. Now, the site's down, their Instagram account is gone, and I can't reach them. It's like they vanished into thin air. I'm in Galway, Ireland, and I just feel so foolish and betrayed. I've heard about pig butchering scams but never thought it would happen to me. Who do I even report this to? Is there any actual chance of getting my money back? I'm heartbroken.
