My 'broker' is asking for a 'risk deposit' to withdraw funds after I turned a profit. Scam or standard?
Hi everyone,
Feeling really dumb right now. I got into forex trading after seeing some ads on social media. This 'broker' platform looked pretty slick, said it was based in the UK, but I never actually checked if it was regulated. I started with a small amount, maybe €500, and actually made some decent profit over a few weeks, mostly because this 'account manager' was giving me signals. Now I'm sitting on like €3k in my account, which feels huge for me.
So I tried to withdraw a chunk of it, about €1000, to see if it was real. But then I got this email saying to process the withdrawal, I need to pay a "risk deposit" of 10% of my total profit. They're saying it's to cover market volatility during the transfer and ensure I'm a serious investor. It sounds super suspicious now that I'm trying to explain it. Is this a common practice with brokers, especially when you're withdrawing profits? Or have I just fallen headfirst into a classic scam? Any advice on what to do next would be a lifesaver. I'm afraid I've lost everything.
Sophie.
